From New Jersey Rinks to the NHL: The Journey of Damien Carfagna

Cutting Edge alumnus Damien Carfagna has taken a significant step in his hockey career by signing a two-year entry-level contract with the Edmonton Oilers, set to commence in the 2025-26 season. This achievement is a testament to his dedication and the solid foundation built during his early years in New Jersey.

Early Years in New Jersey

Growing up in Woodridge, New Jersey, Carfagna's passion for hockey ignited at the age of four, inspired by his father. He honed his skills with the New Jersey Colonials and Mercer Chiefs AAA teams, laying the groundwork for his defensive prowess. His high school years saw him at Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey and later at Lawrence Academy in Massachusetts, experiences that broadened his horizons both on and off the ice.

USHL Success and the Clark Cup Victory

Transitioning to the United States Hockey League (USHL), Carfagna joined the Green Bay Gamblers in the 2020-21 season. Over one and a half seasons, he accumulated 55 points, serving as an assistant captain in 2021-22. Midway through the 2021-22 season, he moved to the Sioux City Musketeers, contributing 11 points in 21 regular-season games. His efforts were instrumental in the Musketeers' Clark Cup Championship win that season, marking a significant milestone in his junior career.

Collegiate Achievement

Carfagna began his collegiate journey at the University of New Hampshire, where he played 35 games, tallying 16 points. He then transferred to Ohio State University, where he continued to develop over two seasons. His junior year was particularly noteworthy, with Carfagna recording 28 points in 38 games and earning Honorable Mention All-Big Ten accolades.
